The Washington navel orange is descended from the Bahia orange. It was selected and bred from a single branch in Brazil in the 1860s.

12 small trees were sent to America, 6 of which were planted in Florida and the other 6 in California. Unfortunately, all the trees were damaged and no longer lived.

In 1870, 12 identical trees were again brought from Brazil to America. Only three trees belonging to the second phase survived in California.

It was found that today’s Washington Novel trees are descended from these trees.

The Washington Novel orange has a large fruit weighing about 200 to 500 grams with a thick skin. This orange is an early variety and the Troyer Citrange base is suggested as the best base for it.

In the northern part of the country, there is a variety of orange called Palestine Orange. This orange is produced by a modification of the branches of the Washington Novel orange tree.

The trees there are small, but they bear many fruits that can be stored for a long time. The fruit is soft and has some juice content.

The skin is smooth, but not as thick as the Washington Novel fruit. It also has a small navel. The fruit on the tree is not in good condition and quickly goes bad.

Thomson is one of the very early varieties and is relatively resistant to cold and heat. Since the beginning of the last century, a variety of orange was grown in private gardens in the northern regions of the country and was called Washington Novel until 1347.

However, upon closer examination, it turned out that the variety planted is a kind of Brohan variety, which does not have a high economic value.

This plant species originates from Tunisia. The trees bear their fruit later in the season, and the fruit has three parts and a navel.

The skin of the fruit is firmly attached to the inner part, but the inner part is very juicy. Originally, the fruits had no seeds, but now they have 1 or 2 seeds in them.
